The Moffat estate and recreation areas are available to use at your own risk. 

Moffat Park  The park is open to all residents of the North Pocono area from dawn to dusk.  It is located off Route 435 at 20 Moffat Drive, behind the Moffat Estate mansion.  The grounds consist of 40 manicured and natural acreage including a stream with a covered bridge and pond.  At the pond site is a small screened in gazebo.  A larger pavilion with kitchen facilities is available to rent for parties and events.  There are also walking trails, a children’s recreation area and Bocce Ball Court.

Children’s Recreation Area The recreation area is available for children of all ages.  Parental supervision is required.

Pavilion Rental  The pavilion on the property is available for rentals to residents of the North Pocono community (Clifton, Covington, Elmhurst, Madison, Moscow, Roaring Brook, and Spring Brook) for weddings, parties, community functions and events, as well as, corporate use. Recycling CenterRecycling will ONLY be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.  There will not be any outside dumpsters for after hours drop-offs.

We are only accepting the following items:

  • Glass- bottles & jars only   (No lids & no broken glass)
  • Aluminum & steel/tin cans   (Throw away lids unless attached)
  • Plastic – bottles & jars  (No lids)  i.e. milk, juice, water, cleaners, soda
  • Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, phonebooks and brown bags
  • Office paper (computer paper, mail, envelopes)
  • Shredded paper (place in clear plastic bag ONLY)
  • Cardboard boxes (heavy shipping boxes) All boxes must be flattened and bundled or placed inside a larger box
  • Scrap metal (i.e. washers, dryers, stoves, auto parts, etc.)

Friendly Reminder: All glass, plastic and cans must be empty of all food and liquid, then thoroughly rinsed out before recycling.

Spring Clean-Up   Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be any paper permits.  Instead, you must present your photo I.D. to the police officer on duty, showing your Covington Township address.  Everyone is strongly encouraged to stay in their vehicles during this drop off.  Township employees will be wearing masks and will unload the items you bring to the clean-up.

The clean up is generally held for two days in mid May allowing you two trips to the site.  Please check the township calendar for exact dates.  The clean up is held behind the Covington Fire Station.  Entrance is via Dorantown Road and exit onto Route 502 across from the entrance to Bill’s Shopping Plaza.  The township encourages you to use the clean up to remove any unsightly junk and debris from your property.  A permit and proof of residency are required.  The property cannot be a vacant lot or business and the property owner must personally pick up their own permit.  The police department will inspect and enforce all permits.  A charge of $3.00 will be in effect for car tires, $6.00 for light truck tires and $20.00 for heavy truck tires.  Items excluded from the clean up include paint and paint cans, hazardous waste, gasoline, oil and oil containers, kerosene, tires on rims, electronics, yard or grass waste, household garbage and building material.  Freon and doors should be removed from all refrigerators and freezers.

Christmas Open House –  A gift to the community, this event is typically held on Saturday and Sunday, the first weekend of December.  The Moffat mansion is finely decorated for a visit from Santa on his horse drawn sleigh.  There are Christmas carolers, a workshop to make Christmas ornaments and crafts, and complimentary refreshments and gifts for the children.  This event is free of charge. Don’t forget to bring the camera!  Volunteers are always welcome!  Check back for more information.

Fishing Derby  This event is free of charge and open to all children 15 years old and younger who reside permanently within the North Pocono School District.  Registration will be limited to the first 150 children.  Children are always welcome to fish at Moffat Pond.  The fishing derby is sponsored by the Recreation Committee and is held at the Moffat Estate pond yearly.  Children are encouraged to demonstrate their angling skills in the freshly stocked waters. Senior Center Located at the Moffat Estate, 10 Moffat Drive, Covington Township.  The center is open to all senior residents of the North Pocono area.  Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10 am to 3 pm.  The center’s coordinator works diligently to provide many speakers, activities, games, trips and parties for our elder populace.  Please call the Senior Center for more information (570) 843-6485.
