Recycling Open April 4, 2026

The recycling center will be OPEN for normal hours on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The center will be open from 7:00am to 11:00 am.

Spring Clean Up Dates Announced

Covington Township’s Annual Spring Clean Up will take place on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th, 2026 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Residents should bring proof of residency. Please enter the Covington Fire Grounds rear parking via Dorantown Road and exit via Route 502. No permits will be issued, however, residency will be verified.  For questions, please call the township office, 570-842-8336.

Zoning Hearing Board Hearing

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing will be held by the Zoning Hearing Board of Covington Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania at 6:45 p.m. on February 10, 2026 at the Covington Township Building, 20 Moffat Drive, Covington Township, PA  18444 for the purpose of receiving evidence and hearing testimony concerning the Application for an Appeal of Zoning Officer’s Decision and in the alternative a Variance for the use of a “Bus Terminal” by the Applicant H.E. Rohrer, LLC d/b/a Rohrer Bus Services on the real property owned by the Descipio Irrevocable Trust  and Anthony J. Descipio, Sr., located at 1200 Drinker Turnpike  (Covington Township) Covington, PA 18444 with Tax Parcel No. 1980-402-001001. At issue are the requests for relief under the Covington Township Zoning Ordinance sections 404.4 titled “R-2-High Density Residential District”, Article III-Definitions “Bus Terminal”, “Vehicles”, “Vehicle and Equipment Sales Operation”, “Vehicle or Equipment Repair Operations”, 507.6-“Changes of Nonconforming Uses”, 507.7 “Extension of Nonconforming Uses” and 608.3-“Variances”. The property is located in a R-2-High Density Residential District of the Covington Township Zoning Ordinance. If you have any objection to said requests for relief, you should be present at said time and place as stated above to make your objection known to the Zoning Hearing Board or be represented by an attorney at that hearing.

                                                                                   


Township Treasurer Opening

1. Position Summary

Covington Township, Lackawanna County, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as Township Treasurer. This is a critical leadership role responsible for the receipt, custody, and investment of all municipal funds. The Treasurer ensures the Township remains in compliance with state statutes (such as the Pennsylvania Second Class Township Code) while maintaining accurate financial records.

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Fund Management: Receive and promptly deposit all money due to the Township in designated depositories.
  • Accounting & Bookkeeping: Maintain distinct and accurate accounts of all receipts and disbursements, ensuring funds are segregated as required by law.
  • Reporting: Prepare monthly treasurer’s reports for the Board of Supervisors, including account balances, investments, and budget comparisons.
  • Accounts Payable/Payroll: Process all invoices, prepare checks for board approval, and manage Township employee benefit records.
  • Audit & Compliance: Prepare all financial records for the annual audit and complete mandatory state financial forms.
  • Budgeting: Assist the Township Manager and Board in developing the annual budget and making financial projections.

3. Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in municipal accounting, bookkeeping, or public finance.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in municipal financial software (QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Statutory Requirements: Must be able to be bonded for the highest amount of funds available at any time.
  • Soft Skills: Strong integrity, meticulous attention to detail, the ability to work independently and communicate financial data clearly to public officials and residents.

4. Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
  • Part-time work with the ability to become full-time
