Township Treasurer Opening

1. Position Summary

Covington Township, Lackawanna County, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as Township Treasurer. This is a critical leadership role responsible for the receipt, custody, and investment of all municipal funds. The Treasurer ensures the Township remains in compliance with state statutes (such as the Pennsylvania Second Class Township Code) while maintaining accurate financial records.

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Fund Management: Receive and promptly deposit all money due to the Township in designated depositories.
  • Accounting & Bookkeeping: Maintain distinct and accurate accounts of all receipts and disbursements, ensuring funds are segregated as required by law.
  • Reporting: Prepare monthly treasurer’s reports for the Board of Supervisors, including account balances, investments, and budget comparisons.
  • Accounts Payable/Payroll: Process all invoices, prepare checks for board approval, and manage Township employee benefit records.
  • Audit & Compliance: Prepare all financial records for the annual audit and complete mandatory state financial forms.
  • Budgeting: Assist the Township Manager and Board in developing the annual budget and making financial projections.

3. Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in municipal accounting, bookkeeping, or public finance.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in municipal financial software (QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Statutory Requirements: Must be able to be bonded for the highest amount of funds available at any time.
  • Soft Skills: Strong integrity, meticulous attention to detail, the ability to work independently and communicate financial data clearly to public officials and residents.

  • Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
  • Part-time work with the ability to become full-time

Auditor meeting

The board of auditors will hold their annual meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 6:00pm at the Municipal office, 20 Moffat Drive, Covington Township, PA 18444. The agenda for this meeting can be found under the meeting documents, meeting agendas tab.


Christmas Holiday Reduced office hours

The municipal office will have reduced office hours for the Christmas holiday. The office will be closing at noon on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 (Christmas Eve) and will remain closed through Friday, December 26, 2025. The municipal office will be open on Monday, December 29th for normal office hours, but will be closed on Tuesday, December 30th through, Friday, January 2, 2026. The office will re-open for normal business hours on Monday, January 5, 2026. The Board of Supervisors wishes everyone a Merry Christmas 🎄🎅 & a Happy New Year


Special meeting 12-17-2025

The Covington Township Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 5:00 pm at the Municipal Office, 20 Moffat Drive, Covington Township, PA 18444 to approve the purchase of a new police vehicle, to set the tax rate for the 2026 year, and any other business which may come before the board. Public Hearing

The Covington Township Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, January 27, 2026at 6:30 pm in the municipal office, 20 Moffat Drive, Covington Township, PA 18444 to address the application received from Amazon.com Services, LLC to request a change in zoning district for property located at 298 First Avenue, Covington Township, PA. The application requests zoning map amendment to return portion of property to M-1 district consistent with balance of property and existing/previously approved development. All interested parties are invited to attend. The application is available at the township office for review. A vote on the ordinance may take place at the conclusion of the hearing.


NP Regional Planning Meeting

The North Pocono Regional Planning Association Committee will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at the Moscow Borough Building, 123 VanBrunt Street, Moscow, PA 18444 at 7:00pm. The public is invited to attend. The agenda for this meeting can be found below:


Conditional Use Public Hearing ~ Rohrer Bus Co.

A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 6:00pm at the Municipal Office, 20 Moffat Drive, Covington Township, PA 18444 to consider the conditional use application for Shawn Theodore (Rohrer Bus) for a property located at 1200 Drinker Turnpike, Covington Township, PA 18444. The applicant seeks to request a variance to allow the conditional use of the parcel as a School Bus Depot. All interested parties are invited to attend.


Conditional Use Public Hearing ~ Tramdock Property, LLC

A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 6:30pm at the Municipal Office, 20 Moffat Drive, Covington Township, PA 18444 to consider the conditional use application for Tramdock Property, LLC for a property located at 335 Dorantown Road, Covington Township, PA 18444. The applicant seeks to request conditional use to allow for a private recreational facility. All interested parties are invited to attend.


Local Appeals Board

Covington Township is looking for residents to form a local appeals board to hear appeals of code officials’ decisions and interpretations. This board will meet on an as-needed basis and will be required to make fair and competent decisions, have good communication skills, and the ability to analyze evidence. Experience in property maintenance or construction a plus. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to secretary@covingtontwp.org
